"A Modern Day Atelier"
The Atelier was the standard model for training artists from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. The atelier consisted of a professional master artist working with a small number of students to train them in the visual arts. The focus is to build strong foundational skills of drawing and painting that will equip students to produce well constructed representational art and pursue their own artistic directions. The Atelier provides a somewhat structured course of study with a low student-to-teacher ratio, providing optimal learning conditions. The training stresses the importance of drawing and enables students to move through a progression from working on simpler shapes to plaster cast studies and finally working from life on portraits and figures.
George Paliotto is a professional working artist and educator. He founded Westlake Academy of Art to provide a place for the training of students who want to pursue their craft and increase their skills in visual art. George is joined by fellow professional artist, Mark Schwartz, in teaching classes at the atelier.
